What is Family Law Mediation?

Mediation Roster organizations such as Mediate BC, in its Standards of Conduct, defines family mediation as including mediation of issues about re-organization of the family after separation or divorce, parenting, financial support and property matters connected to separation or divorce, child protection, family property or finances, adoption, prenuptial issues, and intra-family conflicts.

Family Mediation Canada, defines family mediation as “a cooperative problem solving process in which a qualified and impartial third party neutral, the mediator, assists mediation participants to resolve their disputes by mutual agreement”.

ADR Institute of Canada Inc defines mediation as “using an impartial third party to assist the parties to resolve a dispute, but does not include an arbitration”.
